Êaliningrad region occupies 0,1% of the
RF territory. Some areas thereof are situated below sea level. The
region borders on: Lithuania in the northeast and east, Poland in
the south and is washed by the Baltic Sea in the west and north-west.
Population of Kaliningrad at the end of 2001 amounted to 421000
people.
In 2005 the city will celebrate the 750th anniversary. Kaliningrad
is a small city, sights here are concentrated in the center and
in several directions. You can see the entire city quite narrowly
during 3-4 days. The most tourists come here for full-value health
recreation. In the distance of a half an hour driving northward
or westward off the region center there are sand beaches of the
Baltic Sea with total extension of approximately 100 km. The air
there is saturated with iodine and bromine and mixed with the aroma
of pine forests. Being on the seaside is curable at any time of
the year.
