Chelyabinsk is located on the Eastern slope of the Southern Ural on the Miass river about 1919 km to the East from Moscow.
Founded in 1736 as a Russian fortress on the right shore of the Miass river it was a part of defence line, which was created in order to protect Orenburg. The name comes from Turk name Chelyebi which means "prince", "educated". Chelyabinsk is a big industrial center. The most well-developed is black (metallurgical industrial complex "Mechel"), and colored metallurgy, mechanical engineering and metal-working (АО "Uraltrak" - produces tractors, "Stankomash" factory , "Polyot", "Abrazivnoye", "Turbodetal", factories "Teplopribor" etc.), chemical (paints and varnishes factory) field. |
